On Wednesday, April 10th, the Hall of Famer was officially named the 14th head coach of the Arkansas men’s basketball program. The 65-year-old signed a five-year contract after previously coaching at Kentucky for 15 seasons. Prior to that, he was the head coach at the University of Massachusetts from 1988 to 1996, the NBA’s New Jersey Nets from 1996 to 1999, and the University of Memphis from 2000 to 2009. Calipari led Kentucky to the NCAA championship in 2012 and three other Final Fours in 2011, 2014, and 2015. He also led UMass and Memphis to the Final Four in 1996 and 2008, respectively. The three-time Naismith College Coach of the Year winner has 855 career wins, which ranks ninth on the NCAA Division I all-time winningest coaches list. “By all accounts, John Calipari is one of the premier coaches in college basketball,” Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yurachek said.
